Vibe Guide States the Buzzin’ Obvious

Sex ToysLeading online condom store, Condomania, recently published a how-to guide for women who’ve never used a vibrator before. Titled “How to Use a Vibrator: Helpful Advice for First-Timers”, the article details the ins and outs of vibe use – and thankfully with less lame puns than this blog – and points out what some might find to be exceedingly obvious. Ranging from inane observations – “Vibrators for women take many shapes and come in various sizes,” – to thinly-veiled product endorsements – “Some first-timers opt for Trojan vibrators, which come in easy to use designs that aren’t intimidating to use or expensive to buy,” – the guide may come across as completely unnecessary to some, but will likely have all those previously asexual Fifty Shades fans giggling in their Nordstrom Rack-purchased frocks and contemplating self-satisfaction of the battery-operated kind.

From setting the mood – “dimming the lights, turning on soft music; whatever you need to feel sexy” – to letting the previously external-only phallus find its way inside – “Allowing the vibrator to enter the vagina simulates sexual intercourse but adds an extra ‘buzz'” – Condomania seeks to cover all areas of vibrator-aided self-pleasure and, somewhat surprisingly, even suggests using a vibe with a partner for added stimulation. A novel concept if ever there was one!

What Condomania’s guide seems to be missing, though, is the efficiency vibrators introduce into masturbation. By selecting the right shape and size of toy, getting to know its settings and potential power, women can feasibly bring themselves to a height of masturbatory bliss and brevity rivaled only by the most accomplished of male self-strokers. Plenty of guys can sit in a restaurant bathroom, spit in their palm, and rub one out in two or three minutes, so what’s with all the candles, scents, and allotment of a solid hour of “me time” needed by the presumed readers of Condomania’s guide. Is the only thing keeping these women readers from near-instant sexual self-gratification the hypocrisy that’d arise should they continue making jokes about feeble sex-obsessed men and their devotion to the manual orgasm process? Nobody said sexual liberation didn’t come with a cost and if that’s less jerk-off jokes, so be it.

Vivid’s Survey Says… Pt. 2

Vivid XCriticAfter unveiling some of the more surprising results from their first few surveys of porn viewers, Vivid Entertainment and XCritic dug even deeper to discover just how much porn people are watching, why they watch what they watch, and who they’re most likely to while away the hours watching fuck on their TV or computer screen.

– Two-time AVN Female Performer of the Year, Tori Black was voted the most popular female star, followed by Lexi Belle and Kayden Kross.
– Jenna Haze beat out Mason, Joanna Angel, parody maestro Axel Braun, B. Skow, and Robby D. as everyone’s favorite director; a huge relief for Ms. Haze, I’m sure, consider directing is all she does these days.
– More than half of respondents use blogs and Twitter to keep tabs on and interact with their favorite performers.
– Star performers also proved to be the most significant motivating factor in fans’ deciding to buy a particular release.
– Viewers clearly use porn for inspiration as well as masturbation, with well over half of respondents trying positions and moves from porn with a partner and noting that their efforts were very successful!
– Most viewers consider themselves moderate watchers of porn and regard it as a positive contribution to our collective culture.

Most notable, though, was the overwhelmingly positive response to the idea of dating a pornstar, with more than 85% of respondents claiming they’d be ok with dating a woman who fucks other men on camera for a living. And, even more surprisingly, more than 60% of viewers would be so comfortable with such a situation they’d even marry their theoretical pornstar girlfriend. That’s certainly one result I didn’t see coming!

Vivid and XCritic continue their joint mission to investigate and elucidate the culture of porn. Pornstars around the country, meanwhile, are fending off proposals of marriage with surprising dexterity and effectiveness. (Although Twitter’s ‘block user’ function surely helps.)

Vivid’s Survey Says… Pt. 1

Vivid XCriticFor the past few months, porn’s most well-known studio, Vivid Entertainment has been joining forces with XCritic to conduct a comprehensive survey of porn viewers, their habits, their preferences, and their opinions about the numerous factors that define how porn is produced, for whom, and for what specific purpose. Does anyone still watch DVDs? Are MMF threesomes more popular than FFM threesomes? Would home viewers perform in an adult feature if it didn’t require sex? What if it did?

XCritic has been slowly releasing the results of the polls and some of the answers have been quite surprising.

– More than 1/3rd of respondents still watch retail DVDs over online, digitally distributed content.
– Despite the continued rise of gonzo, a feature production is still the most watched porn format.
– Although double-penetration scenes have become more commonplace over the past few years, most guys still prefer two girls and one guy in threesome scenes.
– More than half of respondents claim to be always aroused when viewing porn, meaning blood is flowing away from other areas of the body to keep an erection, possibly to the detriment of logical and critical faculties; hence: your regrettable Coke bottle “accident”.
– Most respondents believe the amalgamation of Internet and television will result in more porn viewing.
– Lindsay Lohan is the celeb most desired to be seen fucking in a sex tape, low-res cell-phone footage or not.
– The most popular porn categories were anal and girl-girl, apparently by a huge margin.
– Almost half the men responding would take a non-sexual role in an adult production, while nearly 40% would say yes to a sexual role!
– And, perhaps most surprisingly of all, more than 73% of respondents do not hide their porn viewing, with more than a third enjoying porn with a significant other.

Vivid and XCritic are continuing their polling, so keep your eyes peeled on Mr. Pink’s for more results as they roll in.

Swingin’ with Phil Varone

Phil VaronePhil Varone, the former beat-keeper for Skid Row and Saigon Kick, sure seems determined to solidify himself a career in adult entertainment. After launching his own Sex, Toys & Rock ‘n’ Roll adult novelty line and releasing Phil Varon’s Secret Sex Stash, a feature-length sex tape, the inked-up rocker now aims to introduce viewers to the swinging lifestyle.

With the recent launch of his second Swinging American Style DVD release, Vegas or Bust, Varone heads to Sin City and documents the lifestyle of real swingers, himself included, as they partner up again and again under the neon lights of the filthiest city in the USA, sexually speaking. Having joined “the lifestyle” while touring, Varone is an old hand at the anonymous couplings he documents here. Vegas or Bust introduces us to multiple couples and we follow as they board a party bus, hit up a masquerade ball, and let their freak flags fly sky high!

Calling Vegas “Mecca for swingers,” Varone seems confident his latest adults-only opus has a vital story to tell. “Because the city is a major tourist attraction,” he explained to AVN, “tons of swingers from all over the world visit Vegas and their focus is definitely on partying. The vibe is very laid back and it’s easy to get into the 24-hour-a-day action.”

I’d wager this isn’t the kind of treatment Dr. Drew had in store for Varone during the rocker’s stint on Celebrity Sex Rehab, but then, it doesn’t seem like Varone gives a shit. “Everyone is more relaxes in Vegas. We don’t know each other’s last names and keep everything anonymous. I’m one of the few that’s out in the open.” And, you know, you can’t get much more open than a Vivid Video release, can you?
