Sex brings people together, and I don’t just mean in a moist, mushy lump of entangled limbs: it really does bring people together, creating communities of like-minded practitioners, offering group safety to sexual minorities struggling to survive, and even matching pornographers with their muses, a meeting that creates even more possibilities for togetherness once it hits the retail and digital shelves. John Stagliano might not be an active adult performer anymore, but he’s still as tuned-in to today’s current crop of breakout sex stars. As if to prove this beyond a doubt, the director of the acclaimed Voracious series for his Evil Angel imprint has ventured once again into big budget porno territory to create a unique showcase of two of today’s most authentic performers.
Of the two leading ladies soon to be found adorning the cover of Hard In Love, Stagliano’s continental lesbian travelogue, Misha Cross is the newer name, the slighter physical presence, and the less mainstream-accessible one. Having appeared as not one, but three distinct prostitutes in Game of Thrones, it’s the British Samantha Bentley who takes top billing. And, speaking of billing, that’s a credit you don’t see earned by pornstars every day: Starring and Written by… An ambitious lesbian feature from a porno legend co-created by two of Europe’s most compelling, intelligent, self-assured performers (with appearances from Proxy Paige, Angel Long, and Jesse Volt, among others)? That’s certainly reason to prick up your ears and pay close attention.
Another reason is that Stagliano called in a few favors from friends to pull of this production, shooting in the private Budapest studio of Rocco Siffredi and at insomnia, a Berlin club that also hosted his Fashionistas Safado shoots. Creatively, he turned to Cross and Bentley. “I had the girls’ demented imagination to save me,” Stagliano told press. “As with so much of this movie, the ending was a surprise to me and my narrow male thinking.”
The first chapter of Hard In Love serves up four scenes to Evil Angel subscribers and is available there now, with Part 2 due to arrive June 6th.
Evil Angel has undergone some pretty significant changes over the past few years. New directors like Bryan Gozling have made their debuts while others like James Deen have left their former distributor behind. Some Evil Angel sub-sites were excised, their content now governed by their directors on their own sites. Lexington Steele joined Evil Angel’s established directors, as did the LeWood duo, Toni Ribas, Mick Blue & Maestro Claudio, and Anikka Albrite. One change, a temporary and quite recent one, to arrive concerns Evil Angel’s pricing and will be great news to anyone skint, broke, cash-poor, or otherwise edging towards destitution but still needing supreme sexual entertainment.
If you’ve got ten bucks, you can join Evil Angel. Not the fully expanded network, mind you, but the main studio site. What’s the difference, you ask? Oh, about 300 DVD titles. And, surprisingly, those extra DVDs and their scenes aren’t on the network site but Evil Angel itself, which, thanks to Mr. Pink’s, can now be enjoyed for just $9.95-a-month. Ex-fucking-cuse – NINE-NINETY-FIVE!?
Home to some 1200 DVD titles helmed by such directors as Bobbi Starr, Jonni Darkko, Mike Adriano, Nacho Vidal, and Dana Vespoli, digitized DVDs spewing forth an amazing 10,500-and-something individual scenes, the savagely discounted Evil Angel now sells you viewing rights for a single scene at .09¢ a-pop. That’s less than one-tenth of a single cent, you mad-men, what are you waiting for? This deal is simply too good to last, what with subsequent (recurring) months also charged at $9.95 so don’t dilly-dally or you’ll never feel the unbridled satisfaction that only the most decadent porn outfit in the world can deliver – for under ten bucks!
The end of this month sees the 28th birthday of one Sasha Grey, former pornstar, current who-knows-what, and alleged mainstream crossover success, and to celebrate Evil Angel is releasing a showcase DVD compiling the best, most fierce performances of Ms. Grey’s illustrious career. Shot by different directors over a few years, Evil Angels: Sasha Grey sees the infamous teenage superslut indulge in straight and lesbian sex, the latter aided along by director/co-star Belladonna in what is undoubtedly on the most intense scenes of either woman’s career. Five other directors lent their hand to capturing these scenes of Sasha choking on dicks black and white and plastic, smashing her face into another woman’s labia, requesting a gut-punch during an extreme fetish-focused orgy, and otherwise proving herself totally in charge of her own sexuality, confronting and abusive though it may seem.
While it’s a little disappointing that Evil Angel apparently cannot be bothered to give the non-HD scenes an HD upgrade, leaving them looking like relics of yesteryear, some fans might argue that there was a time and place for Sasha Grey and this compilation captures her (and it) perfectly, grungy resolutions and all. Evil Angel’s Justin Rich calls the release “A greatest hits package from the peak of Sasha’s career.” A career Rich also claims successfully crossed over into movies (The Girlfriend Experience) and music (aTelecine, Current 93, Sasha’s non-porn work has reached a much smaller audience than the work highlighted by this Evil Angel release. Ever listened to a band called aTelecine? Are you a longtime Current 93 fan who wishes one-time members Andrew WK and Sasha Grey split off into a subgroup concerned solely with writing porn-and-partying jams? Nope, then aside from having an A-list Oscar-winning director (albeit one known for occasional bombs) cast her in a super-low-budget indie feature, I’d say Sasha Grey’s porn career is about as close as she’s come to mainstream popularity. After all, it’s no secret that many porn viewers won’t admit to it publicly and, at one point, no adult performer was more Googled than Sasha Grey. And, while that’s certainly not the case these days, Evil Angels: Sasha Grey should do a damn good job of reminding us all what the reign of Sasha Grey was really like. In a word: flabbergasting.
Evil Angels: Sasha Grey is out March 28th from Evil Angel Video.
